These occupational competence qualifications will provide learners with the knowledge and skills to work as a technician in Health Physics and Radiation Protection in the Nuclear Industry. The Nuclear Industry supplies electricity to the UK through nuclear power plants, producing energy for business and domestic use.
Work as a nuclear operator technician involved with radiation protection would be likely to include monitoring and measuring radiation levels.
The Level 2 qualification contains a number of Mandatory Units covering monitoring of conditions, hazards, people and environmental conditions while undertaking radiation-related work activities. It also covers testing the functioning of radiation protection equipment and responding to incidents.
Optional Units cover undertaking radiation-related work activities or recording information on radiation protection.
At Level 3 learners will be involved with the implementation of radiation protection policy and systems, and the supervision of radiation-related work activities.
Who Can Take these Qualifications?
The Level 2 qualification is intended for learners who are new entrants to the Health Physics sector and wish to develop their knowledge and skills to enable safe progression into the workplace/employment.
The Level 2 and 3 qualifications will benefit learners who are already in employment within a Health Physics environment but require additional knowledge and skills as part of an existing job role or to enable career progression.
There are no prerequisites to achieve these qualifications but they must be achieved in the workplace.
