Polymer Manufacturing Technologies
This qualification will provide learners with the underpinning knowledge and skills to work within the Polymer and Polymer Composites Industry; it covers an understanding of materials and processing methods used within the industry, along with engineering principles, and quality assurance and control processes.
Work in the Polymer and Polymer Composites Industry could involve making complex polymer components using a machine or by hand based operations.
The qualification contains four common Mandatory Units covering:
Principles of Polymer and Thermoplastic Materials
Thermoplastic Processing Technology and Methods
Engineering Principles used in Thermoplastic Processing
Quality Assurance and Quality Control in Thermoplastic Processing
The qualification contains pathways enabling learners to specialise in:
Parison Blow Moulding
Preform Blow Moulding
Each pathway contains 2 pathway-specific Mandatory Units covering machines, equipment and tools, and configuring, optimising and rectifying problems in the chosen process.
Who Can Take this Qualification?
This qualification is intended for learners who are new entrants to the Polymer Industry and wish to develop their knowledge and skills to enable safe progression into the workplace/employment.
It will also benefit learners who are already in employment within a Polymer environment but require additional knowledge and skills as part of an existing job role or to enable career progression.
There are no prerequisites to achieve this qualification. It is assessed by a combination of written assignments, a practical test and an external examination.
