These occupational competence qualifications will provide learners with the knowledge and skills to work as a Laundry worker in all areas of the laundry and commercial laundry sector.
Laundry operatives work in a variety of settings, including laundry departments in hospitals, educational institutions, care homes and hotels, as well as large laundry service companies or smaller shop-based laundry outlets that may provide specialist laundry cleaning services. The work involves operating washing machines and tumble dryers to clean and dry items like clothes, bed linen, towels, sportswear and uniforms; as well as inspecting and dispatching laundered and cleaned items.
The qualifications contain Mandatory Units covering generic knowledge and skills including Health and Safety and effective working relationships.
Optional Units cover areas such as carrying out the washing process, tumble-drying items, classifying items and making up loads for cleaning, through to finishing, inspecting and dispatching garments.
Who Can Take these Qualifications?
These qualifications are intended for learners who are new entrants to the Laundry sector and wish to develop their knowledge and skills to enable safe progression into the workplace/employment.
These qualifications will also benefit learners who are already in employment within a Laundry environment but require additional knowledge and skills as part of an existing job role or to enable career progression.
There are no prerequisites to achieve these qualifications but they must be achieved in the workplace.
