MIAP to become the Learning Records Service

Following consultation with partners, stakeholders and interested parties the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Department for Education have agreed that MIAP (Managing Information Across Partners) will change its name to the Learning Records Service from September 2010. This new name will more accurately reflect the nature of its role and function.

The Learning Records Service will incorporate MIAP’s existing services, products and applications and will introduce enhanced functionality for the Personal Learning Record for the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).

Ofqual established as an independent regulator

Ofqual came into existence formally on 1st April; the new legislation establishes Ofqual as an independent regulator and a Non-Ministerial Department. The role of Ofqual is to maintain standards in education by being genuinely independent of Government and QCDA. For further information visit www.ofqual.gov.uk


Skills Funding Agency replaces the Learning and Skills Council

The Skills Funding Agency was set up on 1st April 2010, replacing the Learning and Skills Council (LSC). The Skills Funding Agency is an agency of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), designed to fund and regulate adult skills training in England. Cogent Annual Training Providers Information Day 2010

Run-out period for Level 3 SVQs extended

We have recently received notification from SQA that the run-out period for Level 3 SVQs has been extended from three years to four years i.e. from the last registration date candidates will have four years to complete, and be certificated for, a Level 3 SVQ. This will apply to all current Level 3 SVQs and all those which are accredited, extended or reaccredited from 26th January 2010.
